Description

Stenocephalemys albipes (Ruppell, 1842)

This montane rodent is characteristic by longer, bicoloured tail and smaller body size, when compared to moorland Stenocephalemys. It is syntopic with S. ruppi in southwestern Ethiopia, but can be distinguished based on smaller molars and more contrasting tail coloration.

It is one of the most common rodent species in the Ethiopian Highlands. It can occur even in high abundances, at altitudes between 800 and 3,300 m (Yalden et al., 1976; Bekele, 1996a,b; Bryja et al., 2019a; Mizerovská et al., 2020).
