Species
Otomys cheesmani
Description
Otomys cheesmani P.J. Taylor et al., 2011
This is the largest representative of the O. typus species complex, known only from two localities in north-western Ethiopia. It occupies lower elevations (2100-2500 m a.s.l.) than other Ethiopian Otomys species (excluding the rainforest dweller O. fortior). Nevertheless, the habitat requirements of this species remain unclear. The type locality currently
represents an agricultural landscape, presumably much transformed from the time when the type series was collected (Taylor et al. 2011). No genetic data are available for this taxon and no new material has been
collected since 1968.
